8/7/12: Lily Dawson Designs, a local jewelry company, is seeking an intern to help manufacture product. This is a paid internship available for a crafty, organized and creative individual. Immediate availability is necessary and must be available to work 15-20 hours per week. 6/4/12: Ylang-Ylang Fine Jewelry in St. Louis, MO is seeking an assistant operations manager (part-time). This position requires exceptional organization skills, good bookkeeping, motivation and hard work. This position must complete tasks in a timely manner and be driven to find tasks that need to be completed. 4/30/12: Envy is seeking an intern to for management training. Envy interns work closely with store managers and are trained extensively to perform "on the job." Interns will experience true customer situations during the busiest times. Internship program requires all interns to work Saturdays and busy selling periods. 4/30/12: Envy is seeking an intern for visual merchandising. Visual merchandisers are mainly tasked to develop, create, and implement in-store displays and other store visuals to entice customers to check out the store's products. Envy’s visual merchandisers exploit the impulsive buying attitudes of the college female in order to gain store sales. As a visual merchandiser, interns are expected to assume a myriad of store responsibilities that may include the following:
- come up with creative and artistic concepts for in-store displays
- work with the management team for the visual look of the store
- devise, implement and execute effective merchandising strategies
- create and maintain different visual displays
- constantly conceptualize new and fresh store design ideas
- coordinate with sales associates
- move and position store merchandises
- maintain an organized, visually appealing and welcoming store environment
In general, a visual merchandiser will oversee tasks related to visual displays, store merchandising, product promotion, fashion merchandising, fashion sales, and staff training. Visual merchandiser’s duties is to direct the order (along with your store manager) in which the new merchandise should be prepped.
Visual merchandiser will learn about the following topics:
- Store image, layout and concepts
- Lighting fixtures, store displays, and signs
- Merchandising methods, plans, and theories
- Interior store design ideas
- Concept visualization
- Color theory

4/4/12: Rally House is seeking a sales associate to perform basic operational and transactional functions. Responsibilities will include: handling client service issues, operating as floor coach in the absence of a manager, issuing approvals for desk transactions as well as opening and closing store, lifting and straightening merchandise. The Sales Associate will refer all duties, which require managerial experience and/or approval to the Sales or Store Manager. Sales Associates also handle a variety of operational duties as assigned by the Store Management Team (i.e. housekeeping duties, visual presentation standards, must be able to negotiate the sales floor, fold merchandise, etc.).
Position Requirements:
- Sales: Proven ability to generate sales, add-on and develop relationships with customers
- Client Service: Ensures that the client remains the top priority
- Store Operations and Organization: Ability to organize and lift merchandise, prioritize assignments and meet deadlines
- Merchandising: Knowledge of visual standards and techniques, and ability to implement and maintain within guidelines
- Accuracy: Ability to handle cash and provide change without error. Ability to prepare nightly deposit as necessary. Captures accurate information for all transactions including signatures, addresses, and original receipt data
- Communication: Communicates effectively with Customers, Members of Management, and Store Associates
- Flexibility: Flexibility in scheduling to meet the needs of the business (part-time minimum 20 hours per week)
Educational Requirements and Experience:
- High school Diploma or GED
- 6 months-1 year of sales associate experience
- Retail clothing experience preferred
- Must be able to work a minimum of 20 hours per week
- Must be sales focused, exude high energy, and have a outgoing personality
- Excellent communication and analytical skills
- Must be able to negotiate the sales floor and fold merchandise

4/4/12: Rally House is seeking interns for their downtown Columbia location to start in July 2012. This position combines in-store sales associate hours with out of store research projects. Candidates will have the opportunity to be heavily involved in the opening of a new downtown retail clothing store while working together to plan and execute all applicable functions of introducing an exciting new business to the Columbia community. The duration of the internship may vary based on internship credit requirements; however preference will be given to candidates who can commit to part time hours in the store through October 2012. Full time, in-store availability for the week of store set up is required for all candidates.
Position Requirements:

- Must have availability to work in the store 10-12 hours a week after opening
- Must be a sports fan
Educational Requirements and Experience:
- Open to College Freshman through Seniors
- 1-2 years of retail clothing experience
- Excellent communication and analytical skills
- Strong interest in Visual Merchandising and In-Store Marketing
- Enthusiastic attitude, outgoing

3/14/12: Threads of Yunnan is seeking a volunteer/intern to work with small-scale artisan groups in some of the impoverished villages in the Yunnan province of China. Volunteer will develop products for existing and potential customer base, explore existing available materials and techniques to incorporate into products in new ways, and develop a work plan for product development with measurable goals. The products produced by Threads of Yunnan are of very good quality, but due to a combination of high prices and designs that aren’t suited to SERRV’s customer base, sales have been slow. In order to help the women of Threads of Yunnan achieve better sales and thus better income, Threads of Yunnan has committed to address the pricing issue. The goal of this assignment is to help Threads of Yunnan develop a new collection of home furnishings, gift items and personal accessories that are designed and priced with the US customer in mind.
TYPE OF ASSIGNMENT: Requires a 2 to 3 month commitment to working in Yunnan Province, China. This is a volunteer position. Air travel to Kunming, China and return airfare at the end of 2 or more months, along with a modest stipend, will be provided, as will travel expenses to visit and work with artisan groups within China. Volunteer housing will also be provided.
HOURS: Position requires 40-45 hours/week. Will require some evening and weekend work. Requires flexibility in work schedule

3/13/12: Factory PR is currently recruiting dedicated, motivated and passionate interns for all divisions: Men’s, Women’s, Accessories and Digital. Ideal candidates should possess a strong interest in PR, branding and social media and have a proven ability to multi-task and work in a fast-paced environment. This position requires great attention-to-detail and confidence in phone and e-mail communication. Candidates should be well versed in the social-sphere and have excellent writing skills. Photoshop ability is a plus, as is past PR internship experience. Potential candidates must be able to work three full days.
As an intern, you are guaranteed a hands-on experience in the fashion PR agency. You will work directly with full-time members of our team and be able to experience the inner-workings of a PR agency.
Responsibilities include (but are not limited to):
- Organizing and merchandising the showroom
- Sample send outs, returns, and inventory
- Scanning and photoshopping press clips
- Competitive Research
- Compiling and updating media lists

3/13/12: CollegeFashionista.com is looking for ambitious, goal-orientated interns who would like to be their campus representative this summer. Interns, aka style gurus, are in charge of capturing street style photographs around their college campus as well as creating reports based on their findings. Style gurus contribute one post weekly during the duration of the internship as well as participate in monthly Twitter chats with fashion industry influencers. Interns also have the opportunity to work on brand campaigns and organize local fashion events. Interns must be enthusiastic about the fashion industry, have experience in journalism and/or photography.

2/14/12: Blackberry Exchange, a vintage shop located in downtown Columbia, is seeking part-time employees. Blackberry specializes in unique and classic clothing for men and women. 2/9/12: Under Armour is seeking accomplished and talented students to join the company's highly selective internship program, Summer League. This is a 10-week, paid program consisting of roughly 40 hours/week. This internship offers strong support structure, as well as both social and professional networking opportunities; give back opportunities, such as Living Classrooms and the Ronald McDonald House; and an employee discount. 1/27/12: Maria Gianino is seeking an intern in the St. Louis area who has entrepreneurial aspirations of owning their own company. 1/27/12: Alta Gracia Apparel seeks a community organizer/community education lead intern. This internship is highly relevant to students interested in community organizing, communications, social media, marketing, social business, human rights, women's studies, geography, economics, textiles, history of the anti-sweatshop movement and many others. There is substantial room to tailor the focus of the internship to student's field of study and interests. This internship works best for motivated "self-starters" who like to identify work that needs to be done and carry it out with their own discretion and creativity. There is a general framework of assignments, i.e., intern may be assigned to meet with 3 student groups about Alta Gracia one week, or to plan an educational event another week. Students will share their plans with the group for feedback, but how, when and with whom these assignments are completed is up to the intern.
