TECHNOLOGY LAB The Apparel Technology Lab is a state-of-the-art computer-based center that showcases equipment and software used in the sewn products industry. This hands-on training and demonstration facility is utilized by university students and industry personnel. The idea of an Apparel Technology Lab began in the late 1980's. The Department of Textile and Apparel Management desired to have their students gain applied experience which would allow them more career options. The skills that students can obtain in this high-tech environment makes them highly marketable in job placement. Today, the lab has more than $1 million in equipment and software that includes a [TC] 2 3D whole body scanner, Gerber Sample Cutter, Gerber Plotter and Digitizer, many industrial sewing machines, and 12 CAD stations with numerous programs that are industry specific. The lab is used to demonstrate manufacturing equipment as well as innovative manufacturing management concepts. This includes pattern making, marker making, product data management, cutting, supply chain management, methods and time measurements, and garment construction. This mini-manufacturing facility uses new technologies to determine how technologies are integrated within an operating apparel or soft goods plant. Outreach to Community: The Apparel Technology Lab is available
to sewn products industry personnel and to community individuals who want
to make use of the technologies available. Industry personnel may consider
assistance in their operations of pattern creation, pattern digitizing,
