Value of the Missouri Historic
Costume and Textile Collection

The Collection was established to meet the educational mission of the Textile and Apparel Management program.  These principle values continue.  The Collection exists because of the donations of clothing, accessories and household textiles from alumni, faculty and friends of the institution.

The Collection also serves as a tool to establish connections between the University and the community through exhibition and public presentations throughout the State

It provides primary resources for research for faculty and students.  The Collection has been utilized for master’s theses, juried articles and for researchers in historic apparel related business.  It is a valuable resource and helps us understand social history as well as the history of dress.
