Dr. Boorady is an Assistant Professor at the University of Missouri-Columbia in the Textile and Apparel Management Department. She received her Ph.D. in Textile and Apparel Management in 2005 from the University of Missouri-Columbia. Dr. Boorady has been teaching in higher education since 1994 and has taught at such institutions as University of Wisconsin-Stout , Iowa State University and Mount Mary College . She also served as the Department Chair at Stephens College in Columbia , MO and at the American University in Dubai , United Arab Emirates . In addition to her teaching experience, Dr. Boorady also worked for Gillian Group as a production assistant in New York City , in numerous retail environments and as a costume designer in the theater. She joined the TAM department in the Fall of 2005.
Research Interests:
Dr. Boorady has conducted research in the areas of patternmaking as well as sizing and fit issues. For her doctoral research, she developed a series of animations depicting the development of a skirt sloper (pattern) which was shown via a computer. This method of instruction was compared to the traditional lecture method as a means of delivering information to students in the field.
She has also conducted research in the areas of anthropometry and children's sizes, historical costume, functional clothing, and 3D body scanning.
Dr. Boorady was a 2007 Fulbright Scholar to India on the
Fabric of India Life project.
