Instructor

POSITION: Instructor in Textile and Apparel Management, 12-month academic year; non-tenure track, benefit eligible

START and REVIEW DATES: Employment start in June 2021. We will begin reviewing applications on March 1, 2021 and continue reviewing until position is filled.

POSITION DESCRIPTION: The Instructor will support the undergraduate program of the Department of Textile and Apparel Management through teaching merchandising or related areas (40%), advising/mentoring/recruiting undergraduate students, and providing service (60%).

QUALIFICATIONS: A minimum of a Master’s degree in textile and apparel management or in related areas. Candidates will be evaluated on ability (a) to teach courses in merchandising and related classes; and (b) to provide effective academic advising services, build rapport with, and provide career support for undergraduate students. Industry experience desirable.

SALARY: Commensurate with qualifications and experience.

DEPARTMENTAL INFORMATION: The Department of Textile and Apparel Management is one of five units in the College of Human Environmental Sciences at the University of Missouri. TAM apparel labs include industry-specific production equipment as well as a KX-16 3-D body scanner, laser cutter, and Optitex. The Missouri Historic Costume and Textile Collection houses over 6,500 items. The Department has about 220 students and offers programs in apparel retailing & digital merchandising, and apparel product development. The Department also offers an undergraduate minor, digital merchandising certificate, and is one of four University of Missouri programs involved in a multidisciplinary initiative through the Center for the Digital Globe. Additionally, there are approximately 13 graduate students seeking master’s and Ph.D. degrees. TAM has an advisory board that works with the department to serve as a liaison with industry, and graduates from TAM work for companies both large and small throughout the world. The department has a spirit of positive development and teamwork. Key foci of the department include the development of leadership, creativity, global perspective, as well as an attention to technology, inclusion/diversity and sustainability across the supply chain.

Assistant Teaching Professor (NTT)

POSITION: Assistant Teaching Professor in Textile and Apparel Management, 9- month academic year; non-tenure track, benefit eligible

START and REVIEW DATES: Employment start in Fall 2021. We will begin reviewing applications on January 19, 2021 and continue reviewing until position is filled.

POSITION DESCRIPTION: The NTT Assistant Teaching Professor will support the undergraduate program of the Department of Textile and Apparel Management through teaching in the apparel product development and related areas (60%), managing apparel labs (20%), and providing service (20%).

QUALIFICATIONS: A minimum of a Master’s degree in apparel textiles. Candidates will be evaluated on ability (a) to teach courses in apparel product development, such as Textiles, Illustration, Computer Aided Design, Patternmaking, Draping, and other related classes; and (b) to teach online, teach with technology, and to incorporate diversity/inclusion in curricula. Industry experience desirable.
