Champion will be partnering with the University of Missouri Wheelchair Basketball team for their upcoming Dec. 1 game against the Kansas City Kings. The athletic apparel company will provide team-branded hoodies, sweatpants, T-shirts and backpacks to all MU Wheelchair Basketball team members, and the first 200 MU students in attendance will receive a free Champion Mizzou Wheelchair Basketball sweatshirt designed by MU student Ally George. Pom poms and Tiger Stripe ice cream will be provided to all event attendees.
The partnership is between Champion and Mizzou textile and apparel management (TAM) students, who have worked all semester to create new clothing designs for the brand as part of the College Vault project.
In attendance will be:
- Ron Lykins, current head coach of the Mizzou Wheelchair Basketball team and the longtime head coach of both the United States men’s and women’s wheelchair basketball teams. Lykins won a combined four Paralympic gold medals before retiring from his international career in 2021. Note: Lykins will be available to media in the days leading up to Dec. 1 but not at the game itself.
- Ally George, the MU textile and apparel management student who created the Champion sweatshirt design that will be handed out at the game.
- Kerri McBee-Black, an assistant professor in MU’s Department of Textile and Apparel Management. McBee-Black oversees the College Vault project.
- Champion representatives.
